We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Rail Car Technician - Mechanical to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing mechanical tasks, interpreting technical drawings, and conducting final assembly installations. This position requires expertise in using calibrated tools, field modifications, and applying various materials while maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities- Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret technical drawings and Field Modification Instructions (FMI) to execute tasks accurately.
- Measurement Proficiency: Utilize calibrated measuring tools effectively, ensuring compliance with calibration expiration dates and accuracy requirements.
- Hardware and Device Removal: Safely and efficiently remove hardware and devices as required during maintenance or assembly.
- Final Assembly Installation: Perform final assembly installations with precision, ensuring compliance with specifications and quality standards.
- Material Application: Work with various materials, including rubber seals, adhesives, and paint touch-ups, to complete mechanical tasks.
- Compliance and Safety: Follow all safety protocols and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Must wear the following PPE as needed:
- Safety shoes
- Bump hats
- Safety vest (as required)
- Must pass the WMATA-required Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) Training Safety Rule Test.
- Must pass a personal background check as a condition of employment.
- Proven experience as a mechanical technician in rail car systems or a similar field.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and instructions.
- Proficiency in using calibrated measuring tools and understanding calibration standards.
- Experience with hardware and device removal and installation.
- Knowledge of working with materials such as rubber seals, adhesives, and paints.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and work in compliance with industry standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications are a plus.
