Astrophysics:
Theoretical Cosmic‑Ray Astrophysics

Join the NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) as a postdoctoral fellow to conduct theoretical research on cosmic‑ray phenomena at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.

Responsibilities
  • Develop Monte Carlo simulations to study particle acceleration in plasma shocks.
  • Construct analytic models of charged‑particle propagation through disordered magnetic fields.
  • Investigate shock‑acceleration theories and their role in shaping the high‑energy spectrum.
  • Examine cosmic‑ray composition changes resulting from interstellar collisions.
  • Explore the origin of light elements (Li, Be, P) and the cosmic‑ray knee at ~3×10^15 eV.
  • Collaborate with the Laboratory for High‑Energy Astrophysics to advance NASA’s missions in space science.
Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in astrophysics, high‑energy physics, or a related field.
  • U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident (LPR), foreign national eligible for a J‑1 visa, or LPR applicant in the U.S. with I‑485 or I‑589 status and a valid EAD card.
  • Strong background in theoretical astrophysics, plasma physics, or cosmic‑ray research.
  • Experience in numerical simulations, Monte Carlo methods, or analytic modeling of astrophysical systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
