Description
The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.
Our research focuses on understanding basic processes which occur in solar and stellar flares through analyzing data, development of theory, and computational studies. Specifically, we are seeking to understand what mechanisms are involved in the production and transfer of radiation in the flaring atmosphere. Our research makes use of data collected from a variety of ground- and space-based instruments, and we work closely with the teams that operate these instruments.
Current research projects include understanding how ion beams may heat the atmosphere during flares, a study of how varying electron and ion beam parameters affects the radiation produced during flares, and an investigation into how white light is produced in flares.
