Description: The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities for highly talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or an affiliated research institute. This one- to three‑year fellowship advances NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.
This research opportunity focuses on extragalactic astronomical studies of galaxy clusters and/or active galactic nuclei (AGN). Programs may use NASA observatories such as Hubble Space Telescope (HST), Chandra, XMM, Spitzer, GALEX, and ground‑based telescopes including Keck, IRTF, KPNO, CTIO, Gemini, CFHT, as well as radio observatories such as the Very Large Array and ALMA. AGN programs aim to illuminate quasar activation, Seyfert galaxies, and powerful radio galaxies, and their feedback on host galaxies and larger environments.
Absorption‑line studies of “cosmic web” material between background quasars and UV spectrographs onboard FUSE and HST, as well as spectroscopic and imaging studies of galaxy clusters, address cluster evolution and environmental effects on constituent galaxies.
