DescriptionPurpose:
The primary purpose of the Counselor is to maintain patient care within the Center by providing counseling services within the parameters of policy, state, and federal regulations and procedures. The counselor is an essential part of creating a safe and well-balanced environment for ReVIDA’s patients. Counselors will continue ReVIDA’s mission by treating the whole person and standing by our values. The position creates an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, positive emphasis, and a calm attitude when visiting with staff, patients, and visitors.
- Work effectively within a multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Assist in complex problem solving with patients and work autonomously.
- Demonstrate excellent observation, good judgment, and communication skills.
- Provide well‑written documentation promptly.
- Conduct assessments, utilizing ASAM criteria for appropriate patient placement.
- Develop and implement treatment plans, service coordination, and crisis intervention.
- Stay informed on local community drug trends, effects of drugs of abuse, opioid overdose signs, psychosocial implications, addiction process, treatment, and related systems.
- Maintain physical, emotional demands: support patient weight in emergencies, mobility, hearing, and communication.
- Comply with Universal Precautions and workplace violence, ADA, EEOC, and Corporate Compliance programs.
- Participate in supervision and competency evaluations via monitoring activities, staff meetings, and individual meetings.
- Prepare and maintain accurate patient files; coordinate care and present status to the treatment team.
- Provide clinical services and education, including individual counseling and advocacy.
- Monitor treatment success using toxicology results, avoid punitive use, and adjust care accordingly.
- Input paperwork into electronic charts, coordinate with medical professionals, and facilitate intake.
- Document progress notes, ensure counseling units are met, and obtain supervision from licensed professionals.
- Attend staff meetings, assist in program development, and support organizational goals.
- Maintain adherence to ReVIDA Recovery’s company code of conduct and ethical standards.
- Other duties as assigned by the Regional Clinical Director or Chief Clinical Officer.
- Work is sedentary with occasional lifting up to 30 pounds, walking, standing, and mobility.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Must be emotionally stable and cope with multiple situations.
- Risk of exposure to infections and blood borne pathogens;
Universal Precautions required. - Work schedule may involve shifts and changes.
- Accurate patient file maintenance.
- Comprehensive assessments and implementation of treatment plans per State OBOT regulations.
- Provide counseling services for patients on medication for opioid use disorder.
- Conduct individual counseling, patient advocacy, and liaison services.
- Monitor treatment success, adapt treatment, and evaluate program quality.
- Coordinate intake and ongoing assessment with the multidisciplinary team.
- Document progress notes and ensure counseling units meet policy.
- Attend staff meetings, participate in supervision, and support organizational goals.
- Maintain ethical conduct, code of ethics, and professional standards.
- Education:
Master of Social Work, Professional Counseling, or related field. - For those without licensure working toward licensure in TN/Va: LMSW (TN only), MSW with LSW (VA only), LPC without MHSP (TN only), or LMFT (TN only).
- For VA only:
Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Addiction Studies, or equivalent + 120 hours of didactic training in substance abuse counseling. - Experience with individuals with substance use and co‑occurring mental disorders.
- License/certification:
Current CPR and First Aid certification. - Must be licensed or eligible to register with the Board of Virginia for Certified Substance Abuse Counselor in Residency.
- Special requirements: state trainee status, intern, registration, training standing, associate level clinical licensure; knowledge of state regulations and 42 CFR.
- Continuing education:
Must participate in required ongoing education and maintain certifications in good standing.
