Part‑Time Pharmacist at Cardinal Health
Job SummaryWorking in a hospital system pharmacy outsourced to Cardinal Health, the Pharmacist II adjusts and dispenses medication to patients and drives the compliant and efficient operations of the pharmacy. The pharmacist verifies physician orders using the pharmacy information system, makes adjustments according to protocols, and provides patient education. The role also supervises pharmacy technicians and manages compliance tasks related to accreditation, narcotics control, and inventory management.
This position supports AMG Specialty Hospital – Hancock Campus, with 24 hours of work per week, shared on‑call responsibilities, and shifts Monday‑Friday 8 AM‑5 PM and 8 AM‑12 PM weekends.
- Apply expert drug knowledge to verify physician orders, checking drug type, dose, and related metrics.
- Supervise pharmacy technicians, ensuring compliance with State Board regulations and providing guidance on complex prescriptions.
- Adjust dosages per established protocols, ensuring appropriateness for patient condition and concurrent medications, and complete antimicrobial stewardship tasks.
- Educate patients on medication use, expected effects, and transitions, especially when on multiple drugs or new regimens.
- Manage narcotics, inventory control, and compliance, including documentation and checklists, and audit outdated medication where permitted.
- Contact nurses and physicians as needed to verify orders and obtain additional information.
- Assist the Pharmacy Director in maintaining accreditation and implementing operational changes such as new systems or procedural adjustments.
- Licensed pharmacist in Indiana or willing to obtain license.
- In‑patient hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
- Flexibility to work various shifts.
- IV experience preferred or willing to obtain.
- Strong verbal, written, and customer‑service communication skills.
- Manual dexterity for occasional reach, lifting, and holding of small objects.
- Computer savvy to learn and operate multiple pharmacy information systems.
- May require vendor credentialing.
- Applies working knowledge of concepts and technical capabilities.
- Works on moderately complex projects.
- Identifies solutions to technical problems and takes action to resolve.
- Applies judgment within defined parameters.
- Receives general guidance; may receive detailed instruction on new projects.
- Work reviewed for sound reasoning and accuracy.
