Indiana Automotive Fasteners (IAF) has been a cornerstone employer in Greenfield for 27 years. We manufacture the fasteners that hold America’s vehicles together—and we’re looking for mechanically driven individuals who want to build a long-term career, not just take another job.

If you enjoy working with your hands, diagnosing mechanical issues, solving problems, and seeing the results of your work come to life
, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

Why This Role Is Different

Most manufacturing companies teach you one small task. IAF teaches you a skilled trade. We are one of only 15 U.S. manufacturers that train team members across multiple metal-forming and finishing processes:

  • Cold-Forming (Heading) – Set-up Machine Operator
  • Thread Rolling – Set-up Machine Operator
  • Electroplating & Geomet
  • Annealing & Heat Treatment

You won’t be stuck pushing buttons. You will set up, adjust, operate, troubleshoot, and improve machines that form critical fasteners used in vehicles across the automotive industry.

This is mechanical, hands-on, brain-engaged work—perfect for anyone who loves engines, machines, tools, or fixing things.

A Day in the Life of a Metal Forming Setup Technician

You’re the heartbeat of production. You’ll learn to:

  • Set up and run 3–5 metal-forming machines with precision.
  • Load raw material, adjust tooling, change dies, and fine‑tune machine performance.
  • Use calipers, micrometers, gauges, and inspection fixtures to check quality.
  • Diagnose production issues using mechanical understanding and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ensure every fastener meets our high standards for safety and quality.

If you enjoy taking things apart, fixing equipment, or figuring out how mechanical systems work—you will thrive here.

You'll Excel in This Role If You:
  • Are mechanically inclined
—whether from work, hobbies, or curiosity.
  • Enjoy hands-on problem-solving and want to learn advanced machine skills.
  • Have experience doing changeovers, setups, repairs, or machine adjustments (even informally or in other industries).
  • Can read set-up sheets or instructions and follow processes with attention to detail.
  • Have used or want to learn tools like calipers, micrometers, and gauges
    .
  • Love learning, growing, and being part of a team that builds something important.
What You’ll Do (Essential Responsibilities)
  • Perform machine setups, changeovers, and adjustments to support production.
  • Run and monitor parts to meet safety, quality, and productivity targets.
  • Inspect products using standard measurement tools.
  • Maintain accurate production records.
  • Support 4S+ organization and keep equipment staged with needed materials.
  • Operate heavy equipment for material movement.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts and team problem‑solving.
  • Communicate effectively, collaborate with others, and learn new skills daily.
Why You'll Love Working at IAF
  • Starting Pay: $21.00–$23.00 per hour
  • PTO and paid holiday shutdown
  • Paid uniforms and laundry service
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • On-site wellness clinic & cafeteria
  • Growth and promotion opportunities: develop into Lead, Trainer, Technician, and more
  • Team-oriented culture where your work truly matters
Training That Builds a Career

We don’t expect you to know everything on day one. That’s why we invest heavily in your training:

  • Phase 1:
Global Training Center - 1st Shift (4-6 weeks) – Hands‑on instruction on machine basics, changeovers, tooling, and safety.
  • Phase 2:
Production Floor Training - Assigned Shift (6-12 weeks) – Side‑by‑side coaching with an experienced floor trainer.
  • Shifts include: 2nd Shift: 2:30 pm–11:00 pm (Mon–Fri). This is a rare chance to learn a specialized trade from the ground up.
Qualifications
  • Six months of related experience/training or a one-year technical certificate or strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Troubleshooting experience (preferred).
  • Ability to lift 25–100 lbs, depending on task.
  • Willingness to work 12+ hour shifts when needed, including weekends.
  • Good communication and team skills.
  • Strong attention to detail—our fasteners support vehicle safety.
Preferred Qualities
  • Thought Provoking:
Capable of making others think deeply on a subject.
  • Team Player:
Works well as a member of a group.
  • Detail Oriented:
Capable of carrying out a given task with all details necessary to get the task done well.
  • Self-Starter:
Inspired to perform without outside help.
