The Senior Quality Technician performs a wide range of working level to expert level duties including the support and understanding of the company’s Quality Management System, Quality Policies, Procedures, and Work Instructions. The incumbent is responsible for the training, mentoring and deployment of the quality technician function. The incumbent is also involved in certifying the quality level of product and/or systems and applications and charged with designing tests and implementing a system by which to track results.
In this capacity, the technician performs several different tasks under the direction of the Quality Manager.
- Responsible for maintaining and following the current Quality Management System, standard operating procedures, work instructions & records in support of the company quality policy.
- Understands and applies the company quality policy and objectives.
- Develops and maintains all relevant procedures & work instructions applicable to the quality technician function.
- Maintains and protects all company assets under their control while fostering loss prevention awareness. Maintain work area, equipment, and all company assets in a safe, clean, and orderly condition, fostering loss prevention awareness.
- Detects and reports improper operating or faulty equipment and any unusual conditions.
- Support the management of 1st piece process, receiving & final inspections as required.
- Understands, Maintains, uses, gauge calibration system/software for all inspection equipment and gauging, as well as managing gauge R&R process. Maintains calibration and verification records in accordance with company standards.
- Write CMM inspection programs for non-typical, complicated machined components.
- Write CMM inspection programs for SPC data collection.
- Ability to identify inefficient inspection programs and rewrite for maximum CMM utilization time.
- Ability to write scanning CMM programs to evaluate part compliance to print specifications.
- Works closely with all Team Leaders and advises of any material or product quality problems. Observes production personnel performing operations, part handling, nonconforming material handling, and verifies nonconforming documentation.
- Responsible for product inspection, internal quality control audits. Collects and records results of sampling and testing to maintain record of product quality.
- Evaluates returned and/or suspect products under the direction of the Quality Engineer responsible. Creates and maintains non-conforming material report for defective material. Performs disposition of nonconforming material in accordance with company procedures and work instruction using company software.
- Supports the company's corrective action process to ensure sustainable countermeasures are put in place in order to continually improve both products a services.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Responsible for supervising, training and evaluation of the quality technicians.
- Ensures the workload is evenly balanced among all quality technicians.
- Deploys the quality technician to afford all hours of manufacturing the required support.
- Ensure all reports (full time of contract) are trained in all aspects of the quality technician function.
- Reports the performance of the quality technician function to the rest of the department.

Education and/or Experience- High school diploma and associate degree ideally in a technical role with 4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment; preferably within the automotive industry. Work experience in lieu of a college education requires 5 to 10 years of experience, ideally in a quality role with proven leadership abilities and in the automotive industry.
- Previous supervisory experience a benefit or shows experience in leadership roles
- Certification through American Society for Quality (ASQ) as a Quality Technician desired.
- Understanding of the purpose of and how a gauge calibration system works and proficient using various types of measuring and inspection equipment
- Proven mathematical skills in shop algebra and trigonometry
- Ability to read and understand Engineering Drawing and Specifications
- Ability to write and work from detailed technical or functional specifications
- Identifies and attends seminars and/or continuing college education to keep up with changing technologies and method
