Position: Part-Time, Third Shift
Salary: $16.68 – $19.17 – $22.36 per hour (partial‑time)
Summary: A Behavioral Resource Technician (BRT) is responsible for providing safety observation of the patient or patients they are assigned to. The BRT’s role is to ensure that the patient does nothing to harm themselves or others, maintain a safe environment, and interact with the patient, family, and staff in a caring professional manner. As a member of the health care team, the BRT will provide care for the patient and may include bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, turning, and repositioning as assigned.
The BRT is responsible for reporting any changes in the patient’s condition or behavior to the nurse immediately and documenting status every 15 minutes during their shift.
- Provide age‑appropriate care to patients.
- Demonstrate knowledge of developmental stages for children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
- Develop and maintain good human‑relations skills, introduce yourself by name consistently, and interact professionally with patients, families, and the care team.
- Provide safety observation of patients, intervene as necessary, and document patient status every 15 minutes.
- Communicate patient information promptly and professionally to the RN.
- Perform bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, turning, and repositioning as directed by the RN.
- Redirect patients to different activities and de‑escalate situations while maintaining a therapeutic environment.
- Observe, document, and report any significant changes in patient condition or behavior to the RN.
- Remain with the patient at all times in one‑to‑one observation unless relieved, ensuring constant alertness even when the patient is sleeping.
- Travel with the patient off‑unit as directed, accompany them on procedures, and transport them in wheelchairs or stretchers.
- Recognize safety hazards such as ligatures and report them to the RN.
- Understand care for specific diagnoses including suicidal ideation, eating disorders, drug/alcohol withdrawal, PICA, Alzheimer’s, and anoxic brain injury.
- Treat patients as high priority, show sensitivity through non‑verbal communication, and maintain confidentiality.
- Participate in competency validations, educational activities, and staff meetings; complete all mandatory in‑services and web strategies on time.
- Maintain competency for one‑to‑one observation under the Care of Suicidal Patient policy, staying awake and alert at all times.
1 year of relevant patient care experience, including but not limited to behavioral health patients, direct patient care, group home settings, paraprofessional work, or a BRT apprentice role.
Preferred Experience2 years of experience working with behavioral health patients.
Skills and Competencies- Read comprehension, writing, and following instructions.
GED or HiSET (required).
CertificationsApproved Workplace Safety and De‑escalation Training – Baystate Health;
Basic Life Support – American Heart Association.
