Schedule- Part‑time 24 hours a week (8‑hour shifts)
- Second shift (3 p – 11:30 p)
- Weekly schedule not fixed; work different days within a 6‑week published calendar.
- Every other weekend and holiday rotation required.
$16.68 – $19.17 – $22.36 per hour (mid‑point $18.68). These ranges represent base salaries for the grade across the health system. Actual salaries may vary based on experience.

A Behavioral Resource Technician (BRT) is responsible for providing safety observation of assigned patient(s) to prevent self‑harm or harm to others. They maintain a safe environment, support daily care activities, report changes in patient condition, and document every 15 minutes. The BRT works closely with nursing staff, patients, families, and the broader care team in a professional, caring manner.
Job Responsibilities- Provide age‑appropriate care to patients, including bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulation, turning, and repositioning.
- Maintain constant safety observation of assigned patient(s) and intervene as necessary.
- Document patient status every 15 minutes and communicate promptly with RN.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living following RN direction.
- Redirect patients to different activities and de‑escalate situations.
- Maintain a therapeutic environment and identify ligature or safety risks.
- Transport patients in wheelchairs or on stretchers for procedures.
- Receive reports from RN at shift start and provide hand‑off to incoming BRT.
- Stay awake and alert for one‑to‑one observation, even when patients sleep.
- Understand disease‑specific care (suicidal, eating disorder, withdrawal, PICA, Alzheimer’s, etc.).
- Maintain confidentiality and communicate priority of patient care.
- Participate in competency validations, education, and staff meetings.
- Attend required in‑services and web‑strategy training annually.
- Continuously improve skills and knowledge across behavioral health.
- High School Diploma or GED (required).
- Minimum 1 year of relevant patient care experience (required). 2 years of experience with behavioral health patients is preferred.
- Experience may include but is not limited to direct patient care, group‑home settings, paraprofessional roles, or completion of a BRT Apprentice Role for one year.
- Experience as a direct health‑care provider, psych sitter, CNA, MA, HHA, or PCA.
- CPR – American Heart Association BLS Provider (required).
- Completed CPI course within 6 months of employment (required).
- Reading comprehension, written and verbal communication, and ability to follow instructions.
- Empathetic, respectful, and caring attitude toward patients and families.
- Professional collaboration with nurses, PCTs, MDs, and other team members.
- Ability to remain awake, alert, and ready for safety observation during all shifts.
GED or HiSET (required).
Certifications- Approved Workplace Safety and De‑escalation Training – Baystate Health
- Basic Life Support – American Heart Association
