VCA Milwaukee Emergency Center for Animals (MECA) in Greenfield, WI is seeking a Veterinary Technician to join the team!

Schedule: Full time, day shift (6:00 am-6:00 pm). 12‑hour shifts, 3 shifts per week (3 x 12 hour). Alternating weekends and rotating holidays are required.

Compensation: $20‑28 per hour; starting range determined by skill set and years of experience.

  • Triage: Perform an initial assessment to evaluate the patient’s condition quickly—checking vital signs, assessing for obvious injuries or distress, and gathering information from the pet owner.
  • Assist Doctors: Collaborate closely with veterinarians to assist in exams, treatments, and medical procedures for emergency cases.
  • Venipuncture & IVC Placement: Proficiently perform venipuncture, intravenous catheter placement, and grow your advanced vascular access techniques.
  • Medication Administration: Safely and accurately administer fluids, medications, and other treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.

    Collaboration:

    Work in conjunction with all technical staff across the hospital to ensure hospitalized patients receive optimal care and maintain open communication with the healthcare team.
  • Nursing Care: Vigilantly monitor hospitalized patients, identifying subtle changes in their clinical status, and manage the maintenance of urinary catheters, nasogastric tubes, chest and abdominal tubes, and nasal oxygen tubes.

    Education:

    Provide clear and concise discharge instructions to clients, ensuring they understand the care their furry family member requires after leaving the hospital.
  • Anesthesia & Sedation Monitoring: Prepare patients for procedures and monitor anesthesia to ensure patient safety.
  • Diagnostic Imaging: Operate diagnostic imaging equipment and assist in capturing radiographs and other diagnostic images.
  • Laboratory Procedures: Run diagnostics, correlate results with the clinical presentation of the patient, and notify the veterinarian of results.
  • Administering Oxygen: Flow‑by oxygen, nasal oxygen cannula, or oxygen cage.
