The Role

The post holder is required to work as part of a team to deliver a quality service as directed by policies and procedures which are monitored by supervisory staff. Catering assistants will work between the kitchen, dining room, retail outlet and wards. The role involves providing patient meals for breakfast, lunch and supper services, based on regeneration at central points with a ward‑based service.

It also includes provision of staff/visitor meals within the retail outlet, basic food preparation, general support with a range of cleaning, meal picking and packing, meal distribution functions and monitoring of patient pantry provisions on the ward and clinical areas, replenishing where required.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
  • Location based in Inverclyde Royal Hospital
  • Part‑time position (9.87 hours per week)
  • Permanent contract
  • The shift pattern for this post are Saturday and Sunday, 14:30 to 19:30

Please note the salary is pro‑rata for part‑time hours.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintaining safe systems of work
  • Maintaining high standards of personal and general food hygiene as well as high standards of cleanliness in all work areas
  • Receipt and storage of all meals
  • Receipt and storage of supplies
  • Notify supervisors immediately of any concerns regarding quantities or quality issues of food or food products
  • Regeneration of cook‑chill meals
  • Reading of patients menu cards including collection from wards when required
  • Plating of meals in the plating area in an attractive manner
Training and/or Qualification(s) Required
  • Numerate, literate and practical
Level of Experience/Knowledge Required
  • On‑the‑job training will be provided
  • Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate
Length of Experience
  • Some previous experience desirable but not essential
How Specialised Experience Needs to Be
  • Hygiene training highly desirable
  • Cashier experience highly desirable
