Health Care Support Worker - Endoscopy North

The role:

As a Healthcare Support Worker within the Endoscopy Unit, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting Registered Nurses in the delivery of high-quality patient care. The role involves providing direct and indirect care to patients before, during and after endoscopic procedures, ensuring patients receive safe, compassionate and effective care throughout their treatment journey. You will contribute to maintaining a clean, safe clinical environment, support the smooth running of endoscopy services and assist in delivering diagnostic and therapeutic procedures across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Endoscopy Units.

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa or a Health and Care Worker visa. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS).

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• Permanent - 25.5 Hours
• Inverclyde Royal Hospital
• Monday to Friday

Key responsibilities:

As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will provide specialist support to patients undergoing endoscopy procedures, assisting with care before, during and after treatment. You will perform clinical observations, support patient admission and discharge processes, maintain accurate patient records, ensure specimens are correctly labelled and dispatched, and assist Registered Nurses and Endoscopists during procedures. The role includes preparing and maintaining endoscopy rooms and recovery areas, managing stock levels and equipment, supporting infection prevention and control measures, and ensuring patient confidentiality at all times.

You will communicate effectively with patients, relatives and the wider multidisciplinary team, providing reassurance and support to individuals who may be anxious or distressed. In addition, you will participate in staff induction, ongoing training, appraisals and service improvement activities while helping to maintain a safe and efficient clinical environment.

• Understanding of specimen handling and clinical documentation processes.
