Specialist Physiotherapist - Surgical & Critical Care

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 6 Physiotherapist to join the Surgical and Critical Care AHP team at Inverclyde Royal Hospital. This varied and rewarding post offers the opportunity to work across critical care, surgical services and outpatient settings, while contributing to the ongoing development of innovative services.

The successful candidate will work within our critical care service, including Coronary Care, High Dependency and the Stabilise and Transfer Unit, alongside providing input across surgical wards. The role also includes delivery and development of the surgical prehabilitation service and input into vascular outpatient services.

You will provide early intervention, specialist assessment and treatment, expert advice, and facilitate effective discharge planning to support positive patient outcomes. Working closely with Occupational Therapists, Healthcare Support Workers and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will play an important role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

There may be a requirement to provide flexible clinical cover across other clinical areas within the Clyde sector, and participation in the on-call rota is required.

Applicants must hold a Diploma or Degree in Physiotherapy and current HCPC registration. A current driving licence is desirable. This post requires PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland clearance.

• Deliver specialist physiotherapy assessment, diagnosis, treatment and discharge planning for patients within critical care, surgical wards and associated clinical services
• Manage a complex caseload autonomously, providing expert clinical reasoning and highly specialist advice to patients, carers and colleagues
• Support the development and delivery of physiotherapy services within Critical Care and Surgical specialties alongside the Team Lead
• Supervise, mentor and support Band 5 Physiotherapists, Healthcare Support Workers and physiotherapy students on placement
• Contribute to clinical audit, service evaluation, quality improvement and research activities to enhance patient care and service delivery
• Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to support effective rehabilitation, discharge planning and patient-centred care
• Participate in the respiratory on-call service and deputise for the Team Lead as required

• Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy with current HCPC registration
• Significant post-registration experience across relevant physiotherapy specialties, including respiratory and critical care practice
• Evidence of specialist postgraduate training and continuing professional development relevant to critical care, respiratory and surgical physiotherapy
• Strong clinical knowledge and experience in complex patient assessment, treatment planning and rehabilitation management
• Experience of supervising, supporting and developing junior staff and students within a clinical environment
• Demonstrable leadership, organisational and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams
• Good IT skills and experience of using electronic patient records and digital systems to support clinical practice
