The Role

This role aims to provide a high-quality portering service to the hospital, ensuring the safe and efficient transport of patients, materials, equipment, stores, and other resources between wards, departments, and associated hospital areas. The post holder is responsible for managing and developing portering services, ensuring high standards of service delivery, compliance, staff management, and operational performance.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) may be able to provide visa sponsorship for certain roles, subject to the post meeting the relevant eligibility criteria. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and will be determined on a case‑by‑case basis following interview and during the pre‑employment verification process. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
  • Permanent, Full‑time
  • Shift pattern - 36 hours, Monday to Friday
  • Base location - Inverclyde Royal Hospital
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage departmental budgets, staffing costs, and overtime.
  • Monitor stock levels and control spending.
  • Ensure quality, health & safety, and infection control standards are met.
  • Investigate complaints and resolve operational issues.
  • Review risk assessments and standard operating procedures.
  • Manage staff performance, absence, discipline, and development.
  • Lead recruitment and workforce planning activities.
  • Ensure compliance with NHS policies and procedures.
  • Maintain effective communication with staff and service users.
  • Plan and implement service improvements and new developments.
  • Undertake additional duties and projects as required.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
  • Relevant facilities qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, HND, or equivalent).
  • Practical operational experience.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and administrative skills.
  • Financial and budget management knowledge.
  • IT skills, including reports, spreadsheets, and email systems.
  • Knowledge of NHS policies, health & safety, infection control, and risk management.
  • Commitment to staff training, development, and continuous improvement.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
