OverviewDo you like starting your day outdoors? As an entry‑level materials engineer technician, you’ll receive training and on‑the‑job experience to test soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and more, ensuring projects meet quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities- Start with concrete testing and sampling, then expand to soil, asphalt, and masonry.
- Receive on‑the‑job training and certification support through American Concrete Institute (ACI) and the International Code Council (ICC).
- Work outdoors year‑round in varied weather, on different construction sites.
- Conduct and document tests on construction materials; maintain and calibrate laboratory and field equipment; collaborate with colleagues to produce reliable test results.
- Perform inspections per International Building Code (IBC) and serve as a Special Inspection agent when required; use Metafield® to organize data.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Eagerness to gain experience in testing/inspection of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Any of the following certifications is a plus:
- American Concrete Institute (ACI):
Field Testing Grade I, Strength Testing Technician, Laboratory Technician. - Strong communication skills in English (spoken, reading, writing).
- Basic math knowledge related to weight, volume, pressure, and units of measurement.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Walk over rough, uneven terrain; stand up to 12 hours a day.
- Lift and carry 40–50 lbs routinely.
- Maneuver loaded field equipment such as wheelbarrows on uneven ground near active sites.
- Work outside normal business hours, including weekends.
