Position Title:
Graduate Assistant for Leadership Development
Graduate Assistants are employed by the University to teach, conduct research, or assist with administrative duties in departments and non-academic units. Graduate Assistants are assigned in the department or unit and confirmed by the Graduate School.
Department/Office Mission
:
The Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement prepares students to serve as changemakers. We develop, promote, and advance civic engagement, leadership development, and meaningful service to create positive social change. We believe that all students have the capacity to become changemakers: active participants in society accountable to and responsible for the common good. Their willingness to act and ability to lead transforms visions into reality.
In doing so, they are able to negotiate diverse views and adopt behaviors to work with others as agents of positive and ethical change.
Reporting
:
The position falls under the direct supervision of the Associate Director for Leadership Development.
Job Duties and/or Responsibilities
:
The Graduate Assistant for Leadership Development will work with fellow staff members to coordinate and advise OLCE program initiatives and support the overall function of the office.
- Co-manage the operations and logistics for either the Bronze or Silver experience of the Spartan Leadership Challenge.
- Assist with the recruitment, training, and support of Bronze workshop facilitators or Silver leadership coaches.
- Serve on the facilitation team for the Spartan Leadership Challenge Bronze workshops.
- Review assessment data pertaining to the Spartan Leadership Challenge.
- Serve as a leadership coach for 1‑2 silver students.
- Supervise one student employee incorporating the UNCG Spartan Ready program.
- Assist with the management of OLCE social media.
- Assist with the coordination of the Spartan Leadership Challenge Medallion Ceremony.
- Provide support to OLCE office-wide programming including the LiNC planning committee, Change maker week planning committee, the change maker of the month program, and days of service programming.
Work Hours, Environment
:
The position is located in an OLCE office space with other GAs. Work is mainly completed in the office, though some programming takes place in different areas around campus. This position is expected to work an average of 20 hours per week during the traditional fall and spring semesters.
Additional Terms of Employment
:
This position is traditionally hired as a 2‑year Graduate Assistantship.
- Maintain academic good standing at all times (GPA ≥ 3.0).
- Be enrolled full‑time, which is generally a minimum of 9 credits.
- Make satisfactory progress toward your degree as defined by your academic program and the Graduate School.
- Meet the requirements to be eligible for employment in the U.S.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience coordinating and facilitating activities or programs.
- Ability to take the initiative while working both autonomously and with a team.
- Interest and passion for working to empower college students to recognize themselves as civically responsible leaders.
- Excellent organizational, task, priority, and time management skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships.
