Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
Mission: OARS collaborates with UNCG’s diverse community to ensure that all aspects of campus life are accessible. This includes the removal of barriers to access whenever possible and assessment/implementation support for reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities. OARS provides the institution with resources, education, and direct services promoting equitable and inclusive access and inherent acknowledgment of disability as a part of diversity.
Position Summary
The Assistant Director must be an exemplary role model.
The Assistant Director (AD) of the Office of Accessibility Resources and Services ( OARS ) is a professional position reporting to the Director of OARS and is housed within the Division of Student Affairs. This position is critical to UNCG for identifying barriers and providing appropriate access and support to students with disabilities.
Depending on the business needs of the office, this position may serve as OARS’ primary liaison for Housing, accessible technology, accommodated testing, etc. Percentages for key responsibilities are also subject to variance based on office needs at the time.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate degree in a related field; for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions.
- Will accept a relevant undergraduate degree and relevant experience in substitution.
Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years in higher ed disability services.
- Working knowledge of the ADAAA and Section 504 of the Rehab Act.
- Familiarity with accessible technology for disabled students.
- Ability to work independently and take appropriate initiative.

- Engages the interactive process (to include AD, student’s self-reporting, review of any relative history, and review of any supporting documentation, and others when needed) to facilitate the academic progress, inclusion, and UNCG community engagement of students with disabilities.
