Position Summary

The term Graduate Assistant is the umbrella term that encompasses all types of GA appointments. Graduate Assistants are employed by the University to teach, conduct research, or assist with administrative duties in departments and non‑academic units. Every attempt is made to assign Graduate Assistants to positions that are directly related to the student’s field of study or that provide the opportunity to develop transferable, professional skills.

Graduate Assistantships are assigned in the department or unit and confirmed by the Graduate School.

Job Description

Reporting:
This GA reports to Marisa Gonzalez, Assistant Director of Intercultural Engagement

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and support the development and promotion of Spartans in Dialogue.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of other signature dialogue initiatives with offices across campus.
  • Assist with the planning, coordination and set‑up of OIE events designed to enhance intercultural experiences.
  • Conduct research on national and international programs focused on dialogue, as needed, for the implementation of new programs and improvement of current programs.
  • Assist with assessment and evaluation efforts for Spartans in Dialogue (i.e. conduct surveys and other methods of data collection); analyze and maintain results, and develop reports to inform the direction of Spartans In Dialogue.
  • Promote the office mission and programs via presentations and information table at university events, including but not limited to:
    Foundations for Learning classes;
    Fall Kickoff, Welcome Week, Admissions events and SOAR.
  • Assist AD with cultural identity collective hub programming.
  • Provide on‑site staffing and support for OIE programs/events when needed.
  • Provide some supervision and serve as a resource person for student office assistants.
  • Participate in OIE staff meetings, Division of Student Affairs meetings, and other department/division committees as needed.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible for appointments as a graduate assistant, you must:

  • Maintain academic good standing at all times (3.0).
  • Be enrolled full‑time, which is generally a minimum of 9 credits.
  • Make satisfactory progress toward your degree as defined by your academic program and the Graduate School.
  • Meet the requirements to be eligible for employment in the U.S.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Skills or Prerequisites: Applicants pursuing a master’s or doctorate degree in higher education, counseling, educational administration, or closely related field are preferred.

All applicants must:

  • Have experience in participating in and/or developing dialogue and/or multicultural programming initiatives.
  • Have experience with and/or knowledge of program planning, event management, leadership development, and/or student activities;
  • Be detail‑oriented and have strong organizational skills;
  • Have good communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Have solid presentation experience;
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office software and Google productivity apps (Doc, Sheets, Forms, etc.)
