Senior Proposal Specialist

CDM Smith is seeking a creative and persuasive writer to join our North Group marketing team. The successful candidate will develop compelling written storylines for proposals and presentations, engaging our clients and highlighting the distinguishing features of our approach and technical solutions. Positive attitude, flexibility, and collaborative teamwork are essential.

• Plan, organize, coordinate, and implement strategies for marketing and business development opportunities throughout the firm’s North Region.
• Develop, write, edit, and review content for proposals, presentations, resumes, project descriptions, and related marketing materials for municipal water and environmental clients.
• Apply creativity and a theme‑based approach to lead brainstorming, storyboarding, and strategy development sessions.
• Update the firm‑wide database of resumes, project descriptions, proposals, and qualification packages; maintain marketing and visual presentation information.
• Participate in task forces and committees within the wider CDM Smith marketing discipline.
• Develop business development, marketing, facilitation, and writing skills through internal and external training and committee involvement.

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Six years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

• B.A. or B.S. in Communications, English, Marketing, Journalism, or related degree.
• Previous experience working for an architectural, engineering, construction, or other technical firm.
• Proficient in MS Office 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Copilot and SharePoint; advanced skills in Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
• Experience in editing/proofreading narrative written by technical professionals.
• Practical experience facilitating strategy and proposal development sessions.
• Ability to work under rigid time constraints with a narrow margin for errors or delays.
• Experience with business development/marketing process models (such as Dag Knudsen, Miller‑Heiman, Shipley).

• Excellent command of grammar, AP Style Manual, and spelling.
• Ability to organize, negotiate, and drive proposal schedules.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to coordinate projects with team members across the country.
