Reports To: Senior Manager of Teaching and Learning

FLSA: Part-time, Seasonal

Compensation: $32/hr

There will also be future Saturday opportunities for Fall and Summer semesters.

Position Details

Associate Instructors join SEO’s community of educators to implement a rigorous college prep curriculum for high school students. They co-teach alongside Instructors, facilitate classroom instruction, teach mini lessons, organize small group and one-on-one instruction, and provide additional Scholar support. They are the first to cover when there is an instructor absence and do not have grading responsibilities. Instruction is held 100% online, facilitated through Zoom.

  • 11th Grade course: Personal Statement Writing

SEO North Carolina offers lesson instruction 100% online, facilitated through Zoom.

Dates, Times, and Hours
  • Self-guided Asynchronous Instructor Training: 10 hours of work completed prior to programming.
  • Instructor Orientations: 02/05, 5:30-8:00pm
  • Monthly and weekend dates listed in original posting (e.g., January, February, March, April, May) as applicable.
Responsibilities
  • Instruction & Facilitation – Co-teach three to four periods, including ELA and Advisory. When covering for another instructor, lead the class. Follow lesson plans and meet objectives according to SEO’s criteria for rigorous instruction and student engagement.
  • Instructional Technologies – Learn and use Brightspace (LMS), Nearpod, G-Suite, and Zoom in a Blended Learning environment.
  • Content Preparation – Read and internalize lesson plans and materials beforehand; adjust pacing and activities to meet student needs.
  • Tutoring & Academic Support – Host open-door tutoring sessions for Scholars to review, makeup missed work, or develop new skills.
  • Classroom Culture – Maintain an energetic, engaging, and approachable presence to foster connection and positive relationships.
  • Collaboration – Attend scheduled meetings, trainings, check-ins, and respond to emails/Zoom chats in a timely manner.
  • Coaching & Feedback – Meet with assigned instructional coach at least twice per semester to implement feedback.
Weekly Hours

Associate Instructors are allotted up to 10 hours per week during seasonal employment, comprised of Standard and Flex Hours.

  • Standard Hours: Saturdays, 8:45am-2:15pm (with at least a 30-minute lunch).
  • Flex Hours: Additional time for grading, lesson prep, follow-up with Scholars, and communications, completed asynchronously as needed.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Teaching certification, K-12 classroom experience, and/or college/university teaching experience
  • Comfort with and skill in navigating learning technologies
  • Student-centered pedagogy
  • Experience with high school students
  • Depth of knowledge in advanced high school ELA or Humanities
  • Willingness to engage in discussions analyzing societal issues

Preferred:

  • Secondary Education Degree and Certification
  • Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
  • Certifications or coursework in Instructional Technologies
Compensation

Associate Instructors are compensated at $32/hour, averaging 10 hours per week. Pay is subject to change based on qualifications and program requirements.

This position is benefits-ineligible under applicable laws.
