Position: Graduate Assistant for Fraternity & Sorority Life

Graduate Assistant for Fraternity & Sorority Life

The term Graduate Assistant is the umbrella term that encompasses all types of GA appointments. Graduate Assistants are employed by the University to teach, conduct research, or assist with administrative duties in departments and non-academic units.

Job Description-Job Duties and/or Responsibilities:

  • Advise or co-advise one or two of the four fraternity and sorority governance councils:
    College Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council, and National Pan-Hellenic Council.
  • Spearhead scholarship and assessment efforts within the fraternity and sorority community.
  • Assist with planning and implementing department-initiated programming.
  • Serve as a liaison for programming between CAP /Fraternity and Sorority Life and other campus entities.
  • Serve as member of the Office of Campus Activities and Programs staff and participate in campus-wide events.

Responsibilities include:

  • Attendance at council meetings
  • Assisting with major council initiatives
  • Creating skill building opportunities for council officers
  • Serve as advisor and event consultant for individual chapters
  • Aiding students in sound practice and ethical decision making

Scholarship and assessment efforts include:

  • Advising fraternity/sorority academic honoraries
  • Working with council scholarship chairs on a comprehensive scholarship plan
  • Assisting chapters in improving academic performance
  • Compile semester data to tell the community's story

Work Hours and Environment:
Office is open 9:00am-5:00pm, with additional evening and weekend hours required for programming, totaling 20 hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Maintain academic good standing (3.0)
  • Be enrolled full-time (minimum 9 credits)
  • Make satisfactory progress toward degree
  • Meet employment requirements in the U.S.

Additional

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Display maturity in work style and communication skills
  • Have working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Flexibility in work schedule
  • Display enthusiasm for working with students

This is an academic year appointment, from August 1st to the end of the school year.
