Lecturer - Journalism and Mass Comm

This is a full-time, 9-month non-tenure track lecturer position inthe Department of Journalism and Mass Communication ( JOMC ).Lecturers teach four courses per semester in Mass Media Productionas well as in core JOMC curriculum. Classes will be assigned asneeded by the Department Chair. Additional duties assigned by the Department Chair may include, but are not limited to, student academic advising and career mentoring, serving on departmental/college and university committees.

This position is expected to work cooperatively with faculty and staff within the Department, College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, and University.

The department is housed within the University’s College of Arts,Humanities, and Social Sciences. About 430 of the College’sstudents are majors in the Journalism and Mass Communication Department, which plans to establish a graduate program. The department is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications ( ACEJMC ). The mission of the Department is to prepare students with the high-quality educationnecessary to succeed as professionals and critical thinkers and tobecome productive citizens of their communities, the nation, andthe world.

The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences ( CAHSS )enrolls more than 1,950 students and has more than 130 faculty members. CAHSS houses the Departments of Criminal Justice, English,History & Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication,Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts. The CAHSS Dean’sOffice has administrative oversight/responsibility for the sixacademic units and affiliated programs of the College, as well asfor its faculty & staff.

Master’s degree in journalism, mass communication, media or in a closely related field with professional experience in media-related platforms

At least five years of teaching and professional experience is preferred with proven skills in producing multimedia content on multiple platforms, ranging from print media and television toradio, film and Social Media.
