Job Summary
The Orthopedic Technologist assists physicians with the application, adjustment, and removal of casts and orthopedic devices. Orthopedic technologists work under the direct supervision of the physician and department manager, or as specified by facility policies and procedures.

CompensationBase pay: $54 per hour.

- Successful completion of an orthopedic assistant program combining academic work and clinical training.
- Current CPR certification and other health and screening tests as required by specific facilities and/or regulatory agencies.
- BLS required; ACLS preferred.
- Minimum 2 years experience as an Orthopedic RN.
- Experience using rapid response teams.
- Specializes in pre‑operative and post‑operative orthopedic care.
- Experience with elective and trauma patients.
- Complies with ATC policies and client facility policies and procedures.
- Provides patient care in a non‑judgmental, non‑discriminatory manner that respects cultural diversity and age appropriateness, preserving autonomy, rights, and dignity.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient care and facility practices in accordance with HIPAA.
- Maintains competency by participating in continuing education programs and meeting state‑specific requirements, if applicable.
- Explains procedures to patients and assists them in proper positioning for treatment.
- Prepares injured area for cast application; applies cast as directed by the physician.
- Provides instructions to patients for proper care of casts or braces, fit crutches if required, and gives instructions for proper operation.
- Assembles and adjusts traction frames to accommodate patient needs; attaches traction support to limb and adjusts tension as specified.
- Removes casts and instructs patients on exercises to restore mobility and strength.
- Orders and maintains inventory of casting supplies and keeps equipment in proper working condition.
- Recognizes and responds to emergencies according to facility protocol.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
