The Sterile Processing Technician Lead supports with properly decontaminating, assembling, and sterilizing medical equipment and instruments in order to comply with safety standards and provide quality patient care.
Essential Job Function- Works under the direction of Supervisor and assists with the daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD). Serves as a departmental resource for SPD and other departments and models excellent customer service. Maintains frequent and ongoing communication with the Sterile Processing Supervisor. Expert in all aspects of the sterile processing cycle and ability to provide guidance and education to SPD employees.
Assumes role and responsibilities of Sterile Processing Supervisor when assigned. Assists Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintaining department production requirements by leading and directing SPD employees. Assists with case carts management, case picking, and communicates issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor. Uses excellent communication skills when discussing instrument needs with Sterile Processing Supervisor, SPD Liaisons, and/or OR Clinical Coordinators. Ensures that all equipment is functioning optimally and reports issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor and/or the appropriate department.
Assists the Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintenance of departmental compliance logs. Assists SPD Manager with implementation and enforcement of departmental policies. Assists with special projects and interdepartmental committees as assigned. - Other duties as assigned.
- Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred:
Associate's Degree
- Required:
4+ years of experience in Sterile Processing or a related field
- Required:
Certified Sterile Processing Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
Preferred:
Ambulatory Surgery Technician Certified (CASSPT_). Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor Certification (CFER). Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS). Certified Sterile Processing Management (CSPM).
