Associate Pastor of Discipleship

Buffalo Presbyterian Church, a member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, is a growing Reformed congregation with a strong tradition of worship, teaching, and mission. We seek an Associate Pastor of Discipleship who is deeply committed to Christ, an accomplished preacher, and a leader excitable about developing mature disciples of Christ.
In partnership with the Lead Pastor and Session, this shepherd will be involved in all aspects of the church—preaching and teaching, pastoral care, vision casting, day‑to‑day business management, developing and leading discipleship programs, and representing the church in the community.
Responsibilities- Align ministry activities with the church’s mission, vision, and budget.
- Co‑lead weekly worship, administer sacraments, and preach regularly.
- Teach across a variety of settings:
Wednesday Night Programs, Sunday School, Small Groups, New Officer Training, New Members Classes. - Co‑lead committees with volunteers and elders.
- Attend monthly Session meetings.
- Provide pastoral care: baptisms, weddings, funerals, home and hospital visits, crisis care, end‑of‑life spiritual care.
- Serve communion to shut‑ins and homebound members.
- Build relationships within the church, local community, and outreach groups.
- Develop, manage, and lead discipleship programs.
- Identify and develop leaders within the church.
- Support and grow outreach and missions groups.
- Participate in presbytery or denominational activities as needed.
- Assist in developing annual ministry plans and strategies.
- Participate in staff meetings and contribute to church‑wide planning.
- Mature follower of Jesus Christ with evidence of an active and growing faith.
- Master of Divinity or equivalent (seminary preferred).
- Ordained or ordainable by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
- Committed to Reformed theology and EPC essentials.
- Robust teaching and preaching talent focused on expository, Bible‑based messages.
- Strong communication and organizational skills; proven ability to manage events and ministry programs.
- Experience leading and supporting staff and volunteers.
- Team player with humility, high emotional intelligence, and collaborative spirit.
- Deep, bright faith and commitment to daily prayer and Bible study.
- Alignment with EPC values and adherence to elder qualifications.
- Passion for God’s Word and desire to share it.
- Strong moral integrity and confidentiality.
- Compassionate, loving, approachable, and a good listener.
- Motivated self‑starter and proven team builder.
- Interest in continued professional development.
