Essential Functions
  • Oversees, directs, and supervises (with the Medical Director) the nurse practitioners of Medical Services programs with VIA
  • Participates in organizational planning as it pertains to NPs for strategic planning and operational growth
  • Provides policy and procedure development and oversight
  • Analyzes Medical Services data to identify trends and makes recommendations for practice adjustments based on analysis
  • Assists in the orientating, forecasting, planning, evaluating, and setting of objectives for programmatic services
  • Oversees staffing levels and allocates resources to meet programmatic needs for hospice and palliative care
    • Assists practice manager in following up on coverage for staff turnover and PTO
  • Oversees and develops orientation for nurse practitioners for primary and palliative care with leadership
    • Ensures ongoing updates to orientation as standards and best practice guidelines change
  • Conducts weekly or biweekly 1:1 meetings with designated nurse practitioners to address gaps, concerns and ensure clinical expectations are met
    • PRN NP’s will need a meeting once per year to assess engagement and continue participation in employment with VIA
  • Completes quarterly ride‑along with nurse practitioners to ensure updated competencies and clinical standards
  • Leads, creates, and participates in nurse practitioner monthly meetings with leadership
  • Collaborates with medical director around issues of patient care, supervision, and support of nurse practitioners
  • Participates in regular departmental meetings for updates and best practices
  • Ensures compliance with legal, regulatory clinical policies, protocols and procedures based off NC/SC nursing practice
    • Ensures NC monthly quality supervisory
  • Assists with the training, onboarding, and development of nurse practitioners
  • Monitors monthly productivity standards of nurse practitioners, including visits and billing expectations
  • Monitors and evaluates nurse practitioner competency in documenting in the EMR (eClinical

    Works)
  • Monitors and ensures team dynamics in supervising NP teams, i.e., Nursing, SW interactions
  • Ensures supervising NPs uphold VIA conduct and standards of practice
  • Serves on committees as appropriate
  • Serves on regional hospice and palliative care work groups as assigned
  • Provides community education on topics about primary, palliative and end‑of‑life care
  • Participates in ongoing professional development
  • Maintains own clinical competency by having 0.6 clinical time
  • Participates in on‑call rotation of NP’s
  • May perform other duties as required
Qualifications
  • A Master’s Degree in nursing; experience in training in primary or palliative care, symptom management and/or recent hospital experience; experience with program management is desired
  • Current, active, and unrestricted NC license as Registered Nurse (RN), and official recognition as Nurse Practitioner from NC Board of Nursing
  • Current and unrestricted DEA and Basic Life Support required
  • Minimum 5–10 years of experience with increasing management responsibilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with program development and grant preparation desired
  • Computer proficiency is required
