American Traveler is hiring an RN - Acute Dialysis with at least 2 years of dialysis experience and EPIC proficiency to provide hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and apheresis treatments.
Requirements- Active RN license (NC or compact) required, in hand at time of consideration
- BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- EPIC charting system experience required
- Skills required include initiating/setting up dialysis treatment, cannulating AV fistula and AV graft, and managing tunneled/non-tunneled catheters
- Experience with dialysate conductivity testing and ensuring absence of disinfectant in system required
- Must pass a compliance EKG exam (two attempts allowed)
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- Teaching hospital, community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
- Experience with peritoneal dialysis and apheresis treatments preferred
- Skilled in dysrhythmia interpretation/EKG testing preferred
- Acute care inpatient dialysis unit providing hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and apheresis treatments 24/7
- Patient population includes end stage renal disease, acute kidney injury, metabolic imbalances, dialysis access problems, and drug overdoses requiring dialysis treatments
- Patients are acutely ill with a variety of medical-surgical or critical care diagnoses
- Apheresis patients include those with neurologic, renal, or hematologic/oncologic diseases
- Unit consists of 9 bays and 1 isolation room for Hepatitis B patients, equipped for telemetry monitoring
- Nurses' station includes a central cardiac monitoring station and patient call system
- Hemodialysis nurses support cardiac monitoring for patients on telemetry or requiring surveillance during treatment
- Average patient length of stay is 4-5 hours for hemodialysis/apheresis treatments
- Treatments for hemodynamically unstable ICU patients performed bedside; peritoneal dialysis performed in patient's room
- 3x12 night shifts, 6:30 PM-7:00 AM, with rotating weekends
- Call required on Sunday nights only
- Floating required between 3 Cone Health campuses
- Uses Tablo Dialysis devices, Baxter Amia PD devices, and Spectra Optia Apheresis devices
- Patient ratio of 1:2
- Provide direct nursing care for patients undergoing hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, or apheresis treatments
- Manage dialysis-related complications including air emboli, cardiac arrest, hypotension, fluid overload, hyperkalemia, and vascular access malfunctions
- Supported by ancillary staff including certified hemodialysis technicians and a nursing secretary
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as no local candidates are accepted
- First-time travelers are not considered for this position
