Position Overview
The Research Associate will conduct research in their area of expertise, publish journal papers, give research presentations, and assist in overseeing and managing all research and lab activities in the IMPACT Lab within the JSNN Intelligent Materials Innovation Laboratory (IMIL) under the supervision of lab PI Dr. Michael L. Curry. In addition, the associate will assist the PI in managing student training, research activities, and usage of the Joint School’s Institute for Research Technologies (JSIRT) – a state‑of‑the‑art facility that supports accelerated scientific and engineering discoveries.
The associate will also support the PI in developing and submitting data reports and presentations required by funding agencies, including data collection, analysis, publishing findings in peer‑reviewed journals, and presenting results at scientific conferences and meetings. The associate will disseminate and participate in educational and outreach activities for K‑16 and mentor undergraduate research scholars.
- Conduct research in the associate’s area of expertise, publish journal papers, and present findings at scientific conferences.
- Assist the PI in overseeing and managing all research and lab activities in the IMPACT Lab.
- Manage student training, research activities, and usage of the JSIRT facility.
- Develop and submit data reports and presentations to funding agencies.
- Collect and analyze data, publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals, and present results at conferences and meetings.
- Disseminate and participate in educational and outreach activities for K‑16 and mentor undergraduate research scholars.
- PhD in Nanoscience, Nanoengineering, or a related discipline, completed by the start date.
- Experience with applications of Algorithms, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) methods to accelerate material discovery and design, and to optimize manufacturing processes.
- Experience in mentoring and training users in classroom and laboratory environments.
- Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills.
- Experience working in a science research facility with knowledge of equipment usage.
- Ability to develop and evaluate AI/ML methods applied to specific problems, integrate and analyze complex datasets, and publish and disseminate research findings.
- Collaborative experience with multidisciplinary teams.
- 2+ years of experience working within a team‑driven environment.
- Demonstrated experience in excellent customer service.
- At least three years of training experience in the safe execution of research projects in a laboratory environment.
- Experience in writing standard operating procedures.
- Ability to work with researchers from broad backgrounds.
- Ability to perform research on AI/ML methods.
