Purpose of the Organizational Unit

The Center for Youth, Family, and Community Partnerships (CYFCP) builds the capacity of families, service providers, researchers, teachers, and communities to promote the well‑being of children and youth. The center carries out basic, applied, and action research, and translates research into effective programs and practice and policies.

Position Summary

The Economist will become a key member of a dynamic research team by providing critical research expertise for complex, high‑dimensional data analyses. The Economist will collaborate on a broad portfolio of grant‑ and contract‑funded research and analysis projects. The Economist will build econometric models to analyze, assess, and evaluate projects and their economic impacts or cost‑savings. The Economist will work with colleagues across the Center for Youth, Family, and Community Partnerships to design and implement grant‑funded research projects and present research findings to external funders in whitepapers, reports, presentations, and peer‑reviewed articles.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in economics, business administration, finance, statistics, public policy, or related social science field or bachelor’s degree and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.
  • Expertise in conducting evaluations of policies and programs in the areas of basic and applied research and development. Demonstrated expertise in statistical analysis for large datasets.
  • Exemplary oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. If selected to interview for the position, writing samples will be required.
  • Works well independently and has strong time management and prioritization skills. Proficiency in Python, R, SAS , STATA , SPSS and/or SQL .
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience conducting social benefit‑cost analysis and foundational knowledge in public economics.
  • Experience in a research, consulting, or similar setting requiring preparation of and delivery on grant and contract proposals and projects.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience applying simultaneous equation, hazard, and vector autoregression models. Experience in developing novel, advanced statistical methods.
  • Experience working with large datasets.
  • Proficiency in Python or a comparable scripting language to perform machine learning tasks (such as text analysis) or automated processes (such as web‑scraping).
  • Experience in communicating and disseminating findings to a broad and diverse audience through written and oral presentation to diverse public constituencies.
  • Applicants currently enrolled in or intending to enroll in Business Administration PhD program with a concentration in Economics, preferably UNCG .
