Job Summary

This position assists the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager in executing operational, sales, and merchandising objectives while providing outstanding customer service. The role promotes a safe and productive work environment for all Team Members, customers, and vendors, and trains Team Members on policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Work scheduled shifts with the flexibility to cover varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as business needs dictate.
  • Uphold and enforce a safe and productive work environment by following company policies and procedures.
  • Support selling initiatives (TEAM):
    • Thank the Customer
    • Engage with the customer and/or pet
    • Advise products or services
    • Make it memorable
  • Perform assigned merchandising activities, opening/closing procedures, deposits to bank, and other daily tasks.
  • Assess store conditions and assign duties; organize and prioritize workflow using the daily planner.
  • Recover merchandise, participate in freight process, and carry out price change activities.
  • Resolve customer complaints/issues and ensure a positive experience.
  • Adhere to loss prevention standards and respond to alarm calls.
  • Communicate job functions, responsibilities, and financial goals with Team Members.
  • Operate cash register/computer and supervise cash handling procedures.
  • Assist Team Members with policy application and ensure safety and well‑being of live animals; maintain holding tanks and care for live animals as required.
  • Complete all required documentation associated with duties.
Required Qualifications
  • At least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license.
  • Relevant retail and/or pet/live animal knowledge strongly preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; ability to read, write, and count accurately required.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
  • Pet/live animal, pet food, pet product knowledge.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to resolve issues ethically with minimal conflict.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to perform and execute core team member responsibilities.
Working Conditions
  • Indoor work in moderate noise; indoor and outdoor floors may be concrete or asphalt.
  • Shifts vary: usually no less than 4 hours, may exceed 8 hours.
  • Promote a safe environment for Team Members and customers and adhere to company safety training.
Physical Requirements
  • Non-sedentary; requires movement throughout store and outdoor areas.
  • Frequent standing, kneeling, twisting, crouching, squatting, bending, and climbing ladders.
  • Occasional lifting or reaching merchandise overhead; able to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to operate store equipment such as computer, cash register, and other equipment.
  • Read, write, and count accurately; strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to process information through the point‑of‑sale system.
  • Handle contact with birds/poultry and live animals.
  • Travel and drive as required for business needs.
