Job Summary
The Security Officer is responsible for the safety and security of the college community. The role enforces college rules, parking and traffic regulations, and provides other security and safety services. This full‑time position is for the 3rd shift.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Advise, direct, and provide information to students, employees, and the public.
- Patrol designated areas by foot, golf cart, and vehicle, ensuring doors and windows are secured.
- Respond to calls for service and assistance.
- Open and close facilities, monitor alarm systems, and control access to buildings and restricted areas.
- Inspect buildings for security, fire, and possible hazards and take preventive or corrective action.
- Provide escort services by foot and/or vehicle.
- Provide security for large gatherings such as football, basketball, soccer, high‑school graduations, and college commencement activities.
- Complete first aid and CPR training and operate an AED.
- Make preliminary investigations of crimes and disorders and conduct searches within the scope of employment.
- Enforce vehicle parking regulations.
- Carry mace/pepper spray and handcuffs.
- Enforce college rules while cooperating with other police agencies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent and 21 years of age.
- Minimum of one year of related work experience, preferably in an institutional or campus environment (training will be provided).
- Valid driver's license.
- Good customer‑relations skills and ability to communicate clearly, think and act quickly in emergencies, and analyze situations accurately.
- Intermediate proficiency in Word, Excel, and other officer‑related skills.
- Good report‑writing skills.
Physical Requirements
- Heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 130 pounds.
- Bending, stretching, and reaching as required.
- Some sitting, running, and climbing; extensive walking and standing.
- Work in extreme temperatures, wet, humid, and hot conditions as possible.
- Physical ability to restrain individuals and intervene in altercations on campus.
