As a Renovations Technician, you’ll play a vital role in creating and maintaining a safe, comfortable, and homelike environment for residents, visitors, and staff. You’ll assist with general repairs, facility improvements, and renovation projects across the Friends Homes campus.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:- Perform general maintenance: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting
- Build and repair furniture, shelving, closet organizers, etc.
- Support resident room turnover and renovation projects
- Replace windows, flooring, PTAC units, sliding doors, and other building materials
- Maintain plumbing systems and perform basic electrical repairs
- Assemble and repair facility equipment and furniture
- Patch, paint, and wallpaper as needed
- Inspect and maintain fire safety systems (e.g., smoke detectors, fire extinguishers)
- Follow lock-out/tag-out safety procedures
- Assist with fire drills and safety inspections
- Operate power tools, lawn equipment, and heavy machinery safely
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and support resident moves
- Maintain accurate records of work orders, inspections, and repairs using digital tools
- Read and interpret blueprints; work effectively with vendors as needed
- Provide courteous, timely support to residents and staff
Required:
- 2–4 years of construction or maintenance experience (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, or similar)
- Ability to operate tools and equipment safely
- Basic computer literacy and comfort using work order systems
- Ability to read and scale blueprints
- Strong time management and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Willingness to participate in resident-centered initiatives
- 4+ years of experience (10+ highly valued)
- Experience with preventive maintenance systems
- Knowledge of HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, and water treatment
- Experience working in a senior living or healthcare environment
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. (with assistance for heavier items)
- Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, and ladder use required
- Work involves indoor and outdoor environments, including varied surfaces (e.g., tile, carpet, concrete, gravel)
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment such as backhoes, boom lifts, or skid steers
