Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Department of Recreation and Wellness (Rec Well) is housed in the Division of Student Affairs. Rec Well fosters comprehensive wellness by engaging students and the UNCG community in experiential and educational opportunities. We promote lifelong success through meaningful and inclusive programs and resources. Rec Well offers comprehensive recreation and wellness programming including; fitness, aquatics, informal recreation, outdoor adventures, competitive sports, Esports, and wellness education.
The department strives to provide opportunities that enhance student success.
The lifeguard position is responsible for ensuring the safety of swimmers and participants by monitoring water activities, enforcing safety rules, and providing emergency assistance when necessary. Lifeguards are responsible for educating all patrons of pool policies and procedures to maintain the safety of all people using the pool and or waterfront. Strong communication skills, physical fitness, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential for success in this role.
Minimum Qualifications- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
- Current American Red Cross Waterfront Certification or willingness to obtain 60 days after hire
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with others
- Work less traditional shifts such as early mornings, evenings, and weekends
