Engineering Co-op Student

Southwestern Electric is seeking a motivated Engineering Co-op student for the summer 2027 semester. This opportunity will provide real-world experience from the perspective of an electric utility cooperative to a current student pursuing a degree in the engineering field. The Engineering Co-op Student will be mentored by the VP of Engineering in cooperative operations that include utility line design review, power system modeling, protective device management, and GIS/mapping infrastructure.

• Assist in providing engineering services including design and cost estimates for construction and operation of the electrical systems.
• Aid in the implementation of a new electrical modeling system.
• Ensure accuracy of protective device data, including reclosers, regulators, transformers, and other electrical devices.
• Review work orders and design drawings to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Compile and assist in the analysis of data.
• Provide support for the GIS/Mapping dependent systems and applications.
• Become proficient in applicable regulatory codes and construction standards such as NESC, NEC, and RUS standards.
• Become proficient in the use of engineering software.

• Current enrollment in Engineering program

• Must be proficient in the application of Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Must possess the ability and desire to self-educate in diverse subjects involving both hardware and software.
• Must possess the ability to work independently.
• Must be self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and plan tasks.
• Must be of high integrity and possess good working habits.

Salary: $22 - $25 per hour
