Job SummaryThe Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct and indirect patient care in the medical-surgical setting while maintaining the highest standards of nursing practice. This role involves close collaboration with physicians, the Nurse Manager, and interdisciplinary team members to monitor patient conditions, respond to clinical changes, and deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. The RN may also support other departments as needed, with appropriate supervision.
Duties & Responsibilities Clinical Care & Patient Safety- Administer medications, including IV infusions and injections, in accordance with established protocols to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.
- Perform wound care and dressing changes using aseptic techniques to promote healing and prevent infection.
- Monitor and assess vital signs, recognizing and responding promptly to changes in patient condition.
- Manage ventilators and other respiratory support equipment, adjusting settings based on patient needs.
- Provide nutritional support, including management of feeding tubes.
- Assist physicians with procedures requiring technical and manual skills.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with physicians, Nurse Manager, and coworkers.
- Consult with other departments to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Coordinate and supervise patient care activities as appropriate.
- Educate patients and families on disease processes, treatment plans, and discharge planning.
- Address psychosocial needs and collaborate with social services and discharge planners.
- Involve patients and families in care planning whenever possible.
- Participate in quality improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.
- Ensure documentation meets all current standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Safely operate and manage medical equipment.
- Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and the ability to perform well in high-stress situations.
- Maintain positive working relationships across all departments.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
- Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to dress code standards.
- Complete all required annual education, in-services, and competencies.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Attend staff meetings, annual reviews, and department in-services as scheduled.
- Use timekeeping systems accurately and report to work as scheduled.
- Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Actively support the mission, values, and ethical standards of the facility.
- Current Mississippi Registered Nurse (RN) license
- BLS certification
- ACLS certification
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Additional language skills are a plus
