About ECU Health East CareECU Health East Care provides critical care air and ground transportation service and is the only medical transport service in the region accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems. There are nine ground units six mobile ICUs, including one dedicated to children’s transport, and three BLS ambulances. East Care’s five air units cover nearly 300,000 miles during more than 3,500 flights every year and are based in Bertie, Craven, Nash, Onslow and Wayne counties.
All units provide rapid transportation and advanced medical care to critically ill and injured patients, including trauma, cardiac, medical, high‑risk obstetric, burn and pediatric patients, and more.
The Flight Paramedic functions as a member of the critical care transport team and is responsible for the care of critically ill and injured patients transported by ECU Health East Care. Responsibilities include patient care, incorporating assessment, stabilization, and interventional techniques consistent with standards and protocols approved by the Medical Director. The Transport Paramedic is expected to exercise independent judgment to deliver appropriate care that is consistent with the clinical protocols when contact with a medical command physician is not possible.
The Transport Paramedic functions as part of a team and shares responsibility for the team’s conduct. The Transport Paramedic fulfills education and experiential requirements as established by the ECU Health East Care Medical Director, and performs other duties as assigned.
- High School or equivalent or higher is required.
- NC EMT‑P training is required.
- American Heart Association ACLS, BLS, and PALS must be obtained before the end of orientation.
- NRP, ITLS or PHTLS must be obtained before the end of orientation as well.
- One specialty certification for example, FP‑C must be obtained within 2 years of hire.
- 3 years experience or 4,000 hours from a high call volume area is required.
- Postion: 1.0 FTE / 40 hours per week
