The Student Nurse Extern performs specific responsibilities under the direction and supervision of a BSN prepared nurse. Functions within the framework of the Nurse Aide II (NAII) listing granted by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Practices within the philosophy and goals of patient care services.
Responsibilities- Under the direct supervision of the preceptor, assists in providing direct patient care according to job role and skill set. Follows hospital and unit-based policies and procedures, supports the philosophy of Patient Care Services to provide quality patient care, and demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service appropriate to the age of the patient (under the supervision of the Registered Nurse).
- Participates in quality improvement (QI) activities (under the supervision of the Registered Nurse). Identifies opportunities for practice improvement to change behavior.
- Participates in education and self-evaluation and demonstrates knowledge obtained.
- Seeks opportunities to complete competencies.
- Participates in unit based educational offerings.
- Participates in alternate learning experiences as available.
- Participates in interdisciplinary rounds (under the supervision of the Registered Nurse).
- Works effectively with the healthcare team (under the supervision of the Registered Nurse).
- Participates in care delivery with the interdisciplinary team.
- Builds interpersonal relationships with the healthcare team.
- Demonstrates effective communication.
- Reports changes in patient condition to appropriate personnel and seeks assistance as needed to ensure a safe environment for patients.
- High School plus successfully complete the first year of an accredited nursing program prior to the program start date (May 2026).
- NA I and NA II certification is required prior to start date of May 2026.

This is a part-time position, but you can choose to work full-time hours.
