Employee Role

Personal Care Aide (PCA)

• Paraprofessional member of the client care team working under the scheduling supervision of the Client Care Coordinator and the clinical supervision of a registered nurse or Clinical Manager.

• Provides selected personal care services and limited related household tasks that are part of the client’s plan of care and must be provided under a physician’s order.

Job Responsibilities
  • Implements and provides day-to-day Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) support to clients within their homes as ordered by the physician’s plan of treatment and client’s plan of care.
  • Assists clients with activities of daily living and personal care in accordance with the care plan, including baths, mouth care, denture care, skin care, foot care, grooming, dressing, elimination, transfers, ambulation with or without mechanical aids, and therapy exercises under the direction of a registered therapist.
  • Performs household tasks directly related to the client’s health, such as maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment; planning and preparing meals according to specific dietary requirements; light housekeeping; laundry of bedding and clothing; and assisting with errands and appointments outside of the home.
  • Provides companionship and stimulation for the client, including reading, walks, and accompanying the client to doctors or other appointments.
  • Utilizes equipment safely and reminds the client for self‑administration of medication (never administer medications).
  • Accurately documents shift details and services within established time parameters.
  • Ensures the safety of clients and self, follows Universal Precautions, and demonstrates safe hand washing techniques.
  • Observes the client’s general physical, emotional, and mental status, reporting any changes, family situation, or incidents immediately to agency coordinator, supervisor, or client’s designated representative.
  • Maintains and improves skills through attendance at staff development programs and in‑service education requirements.
  • Maintains confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA regulations, respecting the needs of clients, families, and the community.
  • Follows all agency policies and procedures.
  • Completes all other duties as assigned.
ADA Requirements
  • Routine standing, walking, and climbing of variable surfaces, including ramps, stairs, and foot controls.
  • Routine use of hands for tasks requiring hand, gripping, and handling of objects.
  • Occasional reaching beyond mid‑line of the body, overhead, or chest level.
  • Vision abilities required include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Use of universal safety precautions when performing assigned tasks.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Ability to stoop and bend up to 2.5 hours per 8‑hour shift.
Requirements
  • Current certification/registration with the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • Current PCA certification.
  • Compliance with all existing regulations and company policies.
  • CPR preferred and may be required for some clients.
  • Transportation, language, and cultural requirements specific to branch needs.
  • Sympathetic attitude toward caring for the sick, ability to read, write, and carry out directions, and maturity to handle job demands.
  • Variable hours of work, case‑by‑case basis for a variable hour employee.

Additional Requirements: Bi‑lingual – English/Spanish a plus.
