Position Summary

The Manager of Employee Relations is responsible for establishing and developing trusted relationships with local Leadership, the HRBP teams, and key stakeholders. This position will also coordinate the system management of team member relation issues among the Employee Relations team, lead the day‑to‑day administration of the function for assigned multi‑facility locations, provide consultation on team member relations issues for staff and leadership, and facilitate initiatives to foster a positive team member relations environment aligned with ECU Health’s mission and values.

The manager serves as the subject‑matter expert on employee relations investigations and reporting, identifies and recommends solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a visible working style and acts in a manner that is consistent with and shows commitment to the values.
  • Leads the system coordination and management of employee relation issues.
  • Directly responsible for the Employee Relation Consultants.
  • Develops direct reports by focusing on building HR competencies and team member relation acumen.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert on employment laws and appropriately applies information to employee relation matters.
  • Creates legally sound solutions to complex cases and maximizes opportunities for success of employees and the business.
  • Provides Employee Relations coverage and support after hours as needed (24 hours support).
  • Helps maintain a positive employee relations climate by facilitating discussions or by providing consistent advice and guidance to managers and employees for problem resolution of work‑related conflict.
  • Coaches departmental leadership in carrying out their responsibilities on employee relations matters.
  • Conducts investigations and recommends resolution for all employee relations problems.
  • Meets regularly with HRBP managers to advise of recent employee relations matters and review facility specific analytics.
  • Recognizes patterns and anticipates employee‑related issues; develops, recommends, and initiates appropriate steps for resolution in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Supports Legal in conducting employee relations investigations or pending litigation.
  • Oversight of the more complex team member relation issues with partnership of key stakeholders.
  • Orients new leaders to the processes and philosophy of the Employee Relations partnership.
  • Reviews and provides constructive feedback on Corrective Action documentation and recommends the appropriate level of corrective action; interprets Human Resource policies and procedures.
  • Oversees unemployment claims and hearing process.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders regarding compliance initiatives and campaigns, advises and monitors non‑compliance and corrective actions taken.
  • Responsible for delivering key updates and data to the HR leadership.
  • Facilitates positive relationships and communications between team members and departments through various means, such as attending meetings, having one‑to‑one communications, and generally being visible and accessible to colleagues and staff.
  • Adopts a mindset of continuous improvement and commitment to enhancing service delivery to customers.
  • Actively participates in team huddles and meetings. Provides updates and feedback in a positive, professional manner; communicates concerns through appropriate outlets with a focus on mutual respect and understanding.
  • Cross‑trains to ensure working knowledge of various tasks within the department in order to back‑fill and/or provide support to teammates as needed.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required.
  • Master’s Degree is preferred.

  • 5‑7 years of experience is required.
  • This is an onsite position.
