External Communications Specialist – ECU Health

External Communications Specialists generate story content, build relationships with media and community stakeholders, support traditional media opportunities and assist with crisis communications and administrative reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Capturing and leveraging metrics to demonstrate success.
  • Providing support during incident command center activation.
  • Handling and tracking patient condition requests.
  • Providing writing support for Marketing and Communications needs.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key internal and community stakeholders to generate story ideas.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with members of the news media.
  • Researching, arranging, and pitching proactive news opportunities to the media.
  • Responding to media requests, arranging interviews and escorting media on property.
  • Providing support for traditional media opportunities and developing stories outside normal hours.
  • Conducting live and taped interviews and assisting in editing broadcast videos.
  • Monitoring and evaluating daily news coverage and following up with stakeholders.
  • Ensuring press releases are posted to the website.
  • Taking photos of events for publications, media distribution or social media.
  • Researching and collecting information to support content development.
  • Selecting well‑placed locations, sounds and pictures to provide credence to content.
  • Presenting news items on air – both recorded and live sessions to include Facebook Live.
  • Arranging meetings to gather information to generate content.
  • Ensuring prescribed editorial styles and formatting guidelines are followed.
  • Recording data, editing clips and broadcasting polished stories.
  • Protecting and promoting the organization’s brand.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations (or higher).
  • Three or more years of related professional experience.
  • Experience in a newsroom and with live shots.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse audiences and stakeholders.
  • Storytelling, verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Team player who works independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong writing and editing abilities; knowledge of AP style.
  • Proficiency with standard office software (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to work in a fast‑pace environment and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to support a matrix relationship with dual accountability.

  • Hybrid role (based out of Greenville, NC
    ).
  • Monday – Friday day shift: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
