Summary / Objective

Lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs and maintains commercial and industrial production and processing piping systems.

Essential Functions
  • Interprets sketches, blueprints and isometric drawings
  • Cleans, bevels, prepares and installs pipe with various fittings and weld joints
  • Performs layout, rigging and transportation of pipe, valves and fittings
  • Installs pipe and related materials and equipment
  • Inspects worksite to determine presence of obstructions
  • Plans sequence on installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other workers
  • Cuts pipe using pipe cutter, cutting torch and pipe cutting machine
  • Threads pipe using threading machine
  • Secures pipes to structure with bracket, clamps, and hangers, using hand and power tools
  • Tests piping systems
  • Loads, transports and unloads material, tools, equipment and supplies
  • Assists in lifting, positioning and securing of material and work pieces during installation
  • Maintains tools and equipment
  • Relies on pre‑established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility

No

Required
  • 3–5 years’ experience as a pipe fitter; or equivalent combination of vocational training and experience
  • Must be able to multi‑task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail, and demonstrate problem‑solving skills
  • Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
  • Must be available, and have the means to report to multiple job sites as assigned
Work Environment
  • May work in varying temperatures; both inside and outside, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold, and dampness
  • May work in areas with exposure to moderate/high noise levels
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including dust
  • May be required to work in confined spaces or from high heights
Physical Demands
  • This role routinely uses construction equipment such as heavy machinery, hand and power tools
  • While performing duties of the job the employee may work aloft, climb, bend, pull, reach overhead, stand/walk for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms
  • Must be able to correctly identify all colours of a colour‑coded cable/wires and see close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus
Travel
  • May require travel
Preferred
  • NCCER certified
  • Prior military experience
  • HS diploma or GED equivalent
