Reporting to the Adult Services Director, this position:
- Manages system-wide circulation functions and projects.
- Manages the Main Circulation unit at the Main Library and supervises all full-time unit staff.
- Manages the Main Library adult fiction and audiovisual collections.
- Embodies the Library System’s code of service by creating an atmosphere where customers and employees feel invited, informed, impressed and inspired.
- Greets customers and employees with a welcoming smile, and enthusiastically provides knowledgeable and meaningful assistance.
- Performs work in accord with the Library System’s vision and mission, using good judgment and ethical behavior in the application of established policies and procedures.
Required:
- Master’s Degree in Library Science from an A.L.A. accredited college or university.
- Four years of professional library experience at a supervisory or leadership level.
- Demonstrably progressive work experience showing an increase in the level of duties and responsibilities.
- Certified or eligible for certification by the South Carolina State Library.
- Other combinations of experience and training, which meet the minimum requirements, may be substituted.
Preferred:
- Supervisory or leadership experience in a public library.
Must have the ability to:

- Manages the Library System’s circulation-related policies and procedures, facilitating periodic evaluation of policies/procedures and recommending changes to Library Administration, as appropriate. (E)
- Creates documentation and works with the Circulation Training Specialist and Human Resources Training staff to implement system-wide training on circulation functions, as needed. (E)
- Collaborates with the Virtual Services Coordinator, Integrated Library System (ILS) Administrator, Circulation Training Specialist, and other staff as needed regarding the ILS circulation policy configuration and resolution of issues relating to circulation functions. (E)
- Collaborates with the Virtual Services Coordinator and other staff as needed to ensure successful, efficient use of self-checkout kiosks, automated materials handling equipment, and other technologies for system-wide circulation functions and materials handling. (E)
- Collaborates with Facilities Maintenance Manager, Branch Library Services Manager, and other staff as needed to optimize transfer of library materials between Library System locations and ensure efficiency, consistency and alignment in system-wide materials handling practices. (E)
- Monitors the record quality and oversees the maintenance of the patron database in the ILS. (E)
- Serves as liaison to other libraries with which the Library System has reciprocal borrowing arrangements. (E)
