Data Scientist for Enrollment Management Job Summary
Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Data Scientist is a member of the Enrollment Management senior leadership team and understands admission and financial aid strategies for undergraduate students. The role harnesses data, influences, and models admissions decisions, financial aid, enrollment, and student success. The Data Scientist gathers, interprets, monitors, and analyzes data policies, procedures, and outcomes, and uses software engineering, statistics, and machine learning to automate processes and develop solutions to enrollment challenges.
EssentialJob Duties
- Design and conduct complex data analysis using student application data, demographic, financial aid, and student success information.
- Develop and implement sophisticated predictive models to inform recruitment, selection, yield, and financial aid strategies.
- Use third‑party reporting tools (e.g., National Student Clearinghouse) to analyze trends and inform enrollment strategies.
- Create data visualizations and reports that communicate complex findings to technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Partner with Admissions, Financial Aid, and Marketing teams to translate insights into actionable strategies.
- Maintain a strong working relationship with Institutional Technology.
- Acquire deep knowledge of undergraduate admissions and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders across campus.
- Stay up to date on latest trends, techniques, and research in data science and enrollment management.
- Maintain data security and integrity and ensure FERPA compliance.
- Proactively identify and acquire data, including external benchmarks, to support decision‑making, collaborating with external organizations as needed.
- Drive collection and refinement of new data resources: research warehousing options, determine extraction, transformation, and storage methodologies, develop reusable data loading processes, and document transformations.
- Set the departmental research agenda in partnership with senior management to advance ongoing evaluation of work.
- Collaborate with Institutional Research Office and other research teams.
- Contribute positively to other duties and projects as assigned.
- Master’s degree in data science, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a data science role.
- Strong programming skills in data‑analysis languages (Python, R, SQL, etc.).
- Ability to construct and query large SQL databases.
- Expertise in building complex and useful data visualizations.
- Extensive experience and passion for empirical research and answering hard questions with data.
- Data science experience in the education sector.
- Previous experience in higher education admissions or related field with organizational processes.
