- Create a safe classroom environment for all students to learn and reach their fullest potential.
- Design thoughtful and well-planned lessons aligned with the curriculum.
- Maintain an orderly classroom and provide timely evaluation of student work.
- Engage students using Socratic discussion techniques and lead by example with integrity and professionalism.
- Fulfill additional assigned campus duties and follow school policies to ensure student safety.
- Provide assistance to students needing extra help and coordinate make-up work after approved absences.
- Communicate regularly with parents and attend school events and staff meetings.
- Support and enforce school dress and behavior codes, promoting orderly student conduct.
- Maintain grade books, document daily work, inform parents of deficiencies, and prepare reports.
- Participate in review meetings with the Headmaster/designate and pursue excellence in teaching, continuing to develop knowledge of Western Civilization and the great ideas.
- Maintain regular, punctual attendance and professional appearance, adhering to health and safety procedures.
- Bachelor's degree or higher.
- For co-curricular subjects (art, music, physical education), prefer a bachelor’s degree in the subject or at least 36 hours of relevant credit.
- After offer, satisfactory background check as required by state law and the South Carolina Department of Education.
- Commitment to a rigorous liberal arts education and to model moral character aligned with the Core Virtues.
- Ability to foster professional relationships with faculty, staff, and parents; mentor students in their growth.
- Adherence to all ACA policies and school/board guidelines.
The art program emphasizes studio art, art history, and art appreciation within the Core Knowledge framework. The role includes developing the arts program, fostering appreciation of beauty, and guiding students through a disciplined study of the arts as a component of a classical education. The position requires involvement in developing the arts program and delivering a Fine Art Elective in the early Upper School.
