The Department of Radiation Oncology was established in 1985 and is part of the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. The Department proudly hosts a two‑year, CAMPEP‑accredited medical physics residency program and co‑sponsors a CAMPEP‑accredited medical physics graduate program with the Department of Physics. Department faculty provide professional services as radiation oncologists and medical physicists, and are actively engaged in oncology patient care, clinical research, and teaching of students, residents, and fellows.
Faculty also serve in various leadership capacities at ECU Health Medical Center.
Within the ECU Health Radiation Oncology Tower, department faculty provide care using cutting‑edge technology, including:
- Three Varian True Beam linear accelerators with optical surface imaging, respiratory gating, and a 6
DoF couch - One M6 Cyber Knife
- HDR brachytherapy suite
- GE CT simulator
- Gamma Tile therapy
- Y‑90 liver directed therapy
- Radiopharmaceuticals
- Fifth vault configured for an MRI linear accelerator
Faculty also provide services at the ECU Health Gamma Knife® Center and collaborate with regional hospitals to provide high‑quality patient care across eastern North Carolina.
Job DutiesThe selected candidate will provide radiation oncology services at ECU Health Medical Center and may be called upon to provide service at partnering regional radiation oncology clinics. In addition to direct patient care, the selected candidate is expected to provide routine instruction to residents, fellows, and students, to engage in ongoing research efforts, and to participate in service opportunities at the department, school, university, and professional levels.
Fixed Term (12‑month) or Tenure Track position available, contingent upon availability of funds.
Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) and various voluntary retirement plans. This position is not eligible to participate in the NC Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS).
