. The position is full‑time and may be based in Charlotte, NC;
Cary, NC; or Greenville, SC.
- Provide geochemical support to large multidisciplinary project teams across the U.S., focusing on the characterization and assessment of inorganic constituents in the environment.
- Collect environmental samples, conduct field investigations at mining and remediation sites, and perform substantial data reduction and modeling using tools such as PHREEQC and Geochemist’s Workbench.
- Support field efforts about 30‑40% of the time, including documentation of cores in‑situ, mineralogic characterization, redox investigations, tracer studies, and drilling/well installation oversight.
- Collaborate with H&A staff and project teams, summarize technical findings, manage and analyze environmental data, contribute to conceptual site models, and assist in the planning and execution of geochemical field programs.
- Produce technical reports, memoranda, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to support client objectives across a variety of environmental and mining projects.
- Perform all work in accordance with company and client health and safety protocols, as well as H&A’s Guiding Principles and Code of Behavior.
Minimum Skills and Requirements:
- B.S. degree in Inorganic Geochemistry (Environmental Chemistry and other Geoscience degrees considered).
- Conceptual understanding of fate and transport mechanisms for inorganic constituents in the environment.
- Base knowledge of mineralogy and concepts of rock‑forming minerals.
- Foundational chemistry background.
- Python or other computer coding experience.
- Ability to convey observations and produce accurate, concise field notes, logs, data sheets, and reports.
- Experience planning, coordinating, and executing subsurface investigation and laboratory testing programs.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel for temporary work assignments.
- Excellent organizational, written, verbal communication, and problem‑solving skills; attention to detail.
- Proficiency with data management software and other tools for compiling, reducing, analyzing, visualizing, managing, and reporting geochemical data.
- Positive attitude, self‑motivation, strong work ethic, flexibility, and willingness to work with project teams in multiple geographies.
- Collaborate on planning, coordination, and execution of geochemical field investigation programs, including subsurface explorations and laboratory testing.
- Strong computer literacy skills, including proficiency with MS Office.
- Ability to lift 30 lbs. unassisted.
- Desire to learn and grow professionally, demonstrating ownership and resourcefulness.
- M.S. degree in Geochemistry, Environmental Chemistry, or a related field.
- OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER training and MSHA training.
- Interest or familiarity with geology, mineralogy, environmental remediation, and construction.
- Experience at mining or legacy mining sites.
- Experience with data visualization tools and advanced analytical platforms.
