Category Manager – Fixed Equipment

Vulcan Materials Company is the nation’s largest producer of construction aggregates and a major producer of aggregates‑based construction materials, including asphalt and ready‑mixed concrete. As a Category Manager, you will develop, communicate, and execute enterprise‑wide sourcing strategies for major critical spend categories, such as services and hardware needs around crushers, conveyors, industrial supplies, electrical equipment, and pumps.

What You’ll Do
  • Be part of a team seeking to build the best and most robust Fixed Equipment strategies across the industry in North America.
  • Find solutions to help support our operations become more profitable and safer over the sustainable long term.
  • Work cross‑functionally and align business partners (internal and external) to accomplish objectives and achieve organizational goals.
  • Continuously learn and develop leading knowledge across a wide array of subcategories and equipment types.
  • Apply strategic sourcing and continuous improvement principles to improve outcomes and support the Strategic Sourcing Manager.
  • Standardize and optimize processes where possible and present observations and recommendations for improvements to leadership.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders to ensure programs align with business requirements and are achieving desired impacts.
  • Ability to travel up to 60% of the time, including overnight travel.
Skills You’ll Need
  • Education: A bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in the field is required.
  • Experience: Successful, 5+ year track record in heavy industrial or material handling sourcing. Experience with key fixed categories is preferred. Strong track record working cross‑functionally and aligning business partners to accomplish objectives. Ability to work in ambiguity and lead self‑directed projects aimed at reducing total cost of ownership.
  • Communication: Develop and articulate ideas across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Presentation skills will be critical. Clear, concise writing is also essential.
  • Technical Aptitude: Interest or inclination to learn about the technical details of assigned categories. Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical, electrical, metallurgical, or mining concepts is a plus.
  • Analysis: Work with complex and imperfect data sets to build high‑quality insights and strategies. Advanced PowerPoint and Excel skills are required.
  • Creativity: Ability to work without an instruction manual or guide.
  • Project Management: Responsivity and accountability for project ownership and implementation are expected.
