Organizational Unit Overview

The Division of Hematology/Oncology provides cutting edge cancer care and treatment through innovative cancer treatment research beyond settling for the status quo of guidelines. We educate and train young oncologists to be oncology thinkers and not just doers.

Job Duties

The Division of Hematology/Oncology provides cutting edge cancer care and treatment through innovative cancer treatment research. This position assists with administrative and patient care activities required by the research studies. The incumbent has knowledge of all study protocols, recruits study participants and performs patient testing as directed by the Principal Investigator in accordance with Federal and institutional regulations. The Nurse Specialist, under the direction of the primary investigator, will perform clinical skills as needed for assigned clinical trials, including venipuncture for labs and performing infusion procedures on patients per the direction of the primary investigator.

The person in this role will case manage patients, document history, schedule testing, maintain open communication with the healthcare team and have a working knowledge of hematology/oncology nursing care. The incumbent will serve as an advocate and educator for the patient population and other family members and work closely with members of both the research team and clinical staff.
