Role Overview We are seeking a committed and adaptable Core Subject Tutor to support Post-16 students with Special Educational Needs in the Greenwich area. You will deliver tailored learning in English, Maths and/or Functional Skills, supporting learners to build academic confidence, independence, and essential life skills in preparation for adulthood, employment, or further education.
Students may present with ASD, SEMH, ADHD, MLD, PMLD, and complex needs, requiring a flexible, patient, and person-centred approach.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in Core Subjects / Functional Skills
Adapt teaching to meet individual learning needs and EHCP outcomes
Provide 1:1 and small-group tutoring support
Support learners with emotional regulation, motivation, and engagement
Monitor progress and provide feedback and reports
Work collaboratively with SEN teams, therapists, and support staff
Promote independence, employability skills, and positive learning behaviours
Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment Requirements
Experience tutoring or teaching Post-16 learners
Strong subject knowledge in English and/or Maths
Experience working with SEN learners
Confident behaviour management and nurturing communication style
Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
Desirable
Teaching or tutoring qualification (PGCE, QTS, QTLS, or equivalent)
Experience delivering Functional Skills
Background in SEN colleges, specialist provisions, or alternative education
Team Teach / MAPA / de-escalation training
